Title: Project: Pilgrimage
Post by: TK17 on March 22, 2008, 06:54:36 PM
The following link is a medium-quality download of The Pilgrimage Project.  This is a full-length documentary about Lisses - the birthplace of parkour - and about parkour itself.  It contains footage of over a hundred and fifty traceurs, and was shown to David Belle for approval before release.

The file is 440 MB.  I'm sorry that it is so large, but it is an hour and a half long, and it was important to keep the quality at a respectable level.  If anyone is capable of compressing it further, PLEASE DO SO AND POST HERE.  If anyone is willing to mirror the file and make a new download link, PLEASE DO SO AND POST HERE.  If anyone is willing to set up a bittorrent, PLEASE DO SO AND POST HERE.

It is important that everyone understand ... this is not just a "parkour video."  It's not just a bigger and better sampler.  It is different, and it deserves a different kind of attention.  Comments beginning "I couldn't be bothered to watch the whole thing, but ..." will be ignored.  Please try to watch it all in one sitting if you can ... set aside enough time to see the whole thing.  Watch it with friends, talk it over ... and then let me know what you think.  I spent over a thousand work hours making this, and I care very deeply about it, and I am eager to know what you think.

I'm not afraid of heights in any way, but that opening bit actually got me a little... apprehensive thinking about myself climbing up the Dame du lac.

14 minutes in and this is incredible TK17! It's quite apparent that you've put a ton of work into this. I look forward to watching the rest of it and will post up more thoughts later, all sure to be positive if the first 14 is any indication :]

Edit : ;D Scorpions, fire, a machine gun, and barbed wire fence? Brilliant job on the illustrations! :D

Do you think you could release a high-quality version as a torrent?
I would love to burn it to dvd to watch/show people on tvs.

Eventually, yes, a high-quality version will be out there.

Hey Duncan, I'm currently uploading a copy to the APK FTP. I'm heading out for easter festivities with my family before it will finish, but I'll leave my computer on and should have a link for you when I get back to my apartment this evening!

The documentary was phenomenal. I really appreciate the legacy of Parkour so much more and a trip to Lisses is infinitely higher on the list of things I'm looking forward to in my future.
Also, I almost shed a tear when I saw the Change in Lisses segment and I've never been to the city!
Can you imagine a future where Parkour is so widespread and loved that all the great landmarks are recreated for Traceur Pilgrimages?
I honestly don't think it's that far out of reality if Parkour keeps growing at the rate it is now...

But back on topic!
The documentary was great and it truly broadened my understanding of the history and culture of Parkour.
Also, it would be nice to see some "behind the scenes", perhaps of the screening you did for DB himself!

Wow, this was amazing! Just the whole quality of the content in this video makes me seem to have an even closer connection with traceurs in general and with Lisses both! It gets me so excited for my trip in 2009! ;D

Is there any way it could be put up on google video or youtube? I know google video has several hour plus parkour films.

Just an idea, since I can't download a file that large at the moment, due to how often this thing crashes...

Whew, just finished it, and truly enjoyed it. You all did a great job of conveying what the parkour community should be conveying to the rest of the world and especially lisses.

really awesome what you did to la place de chevreuse [sic] thats the kind of stuff that is going to make the "true" parkour community grow and flourish the way we want it to. and the night session with the simultaneous belle footage was awesome =).

that sucks about the damier though, didnt know about that. good comments about respect during that segment.

This was by far the best documentary on parkour I have ever seen.  It truly represents the dicipline the way it should be.  TK I commend you for this contribution to the parkour community.  This is a must see for any traceur/traceuse and anyone considering becoming one.
p.s Can the moderators please sticky this?  I really feel its that important.

I know you asked us not to comment until we'd watched the whole thing, but my copy is really choppy, so I had to stop about 30 minutes in. Anyone else have this problem? I downloaded it from the "Megauploader" site. Maybe the ones on PKNA or APK are less choppy? Or is it my computer?

I want to give a full commentary once I watch the whole thing, which hopefully will happen as soon as I can get this choppy thing resolved, but here are my initial comments so far:

1. Beautiful, beautiful work. I have crossposted this at Madpk.
2. I would like to obtain a DVD copy of this to show in my French classes. This would be an ideal addition to the parkour units I have been planning. Please let me know when it is available, and how I could purchase it.
3. Who did the translation of the subtitles for you?
4. Did I say it was beautiful?
5. I can't wait to see the rest!

This was really well done, TK. You always have so much heart and soul in the parkour projects you do. Very, very beautiful job.

I'm still watching it but I feel the need to congratulate you on informing that we as traceurs need to train to be able to run fast through empty space. I agree with you that this is something we forget about.

I've just posted over on parkour.net, but I just wanted to re-iterate my thoughts here. This is a superbly produced and well thought out program, which I think every traceur, both old and new will be able to take something from. I think it gives a real insight into the spirit of parkour, and what that means to the many traceurs around the world. Whilst this documentary focused on Lisses, I think the sentiments within it are more far reaching and will be the subject of many discussions at parkour training sessions around the globe in the coming days, weeks and hopefully even years. Well done on producing something which conveys so well what parkour and Lisses itself mean to the practitioners of parkour.

Back on topic... haha :P

Amazing video, I especially appreciated how you guys took the time to talk to the people of Lisses and do some work at preserving the community. That is the kind of initiative and thought that will keep parkour in a good light for years to come.

I also liked how well edited and professional the movie was. It was like a traceur's dream guide to Lisses and France. Soundtrack was great, choice of videos great.

I guess my only gripe is that at times it felt a little too serious and what I can only describe as the 'deep end' of philosophy. Stuff so heavy it's hard to pin down and think straight especially for a parkour movie. But then again I guess that's just the way parkour is.

(Oh, and who was the deep voiced guy giving narration near the beginning? Did you hire a pro voice talent or something?)

There were some inside jokes for traceurs only you know, like the Stephane Vigroux part?  ;)

Um ... it was ... just me, who made it.  I mean, I meant what I said about everyone supporting me, and I couldn't have done it without that support.  But in terms of actually doing editing, it was pretty much just me sitting alone in my parents' basement.

Personally i gained a lot of insight from viewing your video, i can stress only enough that u are a well experienced traceur through both knowledge and will power! Thank you very much i needed to watch this video i have only trained for one year and have been seeking out a video like this one. Training comes as importantly as survival to me...

The part that i especially liked and watch over and over again is the beginning. When u explianed how running and endurance was more important than the vault itself. Plus the fact that vaulting rather than hurdelling gave more of an advantage to a traceur.

The only thing i missed seeing was David belle standing next to you in person. I hear he is a very welcoming traceur and contact with him is easy...

Fantastic, just fantastic TK that was an absolutely mind-blowing video. I've been doing parkour on and off for about 1 year and that video inspired me to help out the parkour scene a lot more, well since i can't go nation wide then I'll just help out the New Jersey/New York parkour scene.By spreding the word about about parkour in a positive way,and helping out any tracuer or tracueese anyway i can. What do you think?I loved your video it was fantastic and is my favorite parkour documentury/video i have ever see.Phenomenal job TK i'm proud to be able to see this great video.  (I'm a little bad at explaining myself on the internet so let me put it this way if there were words to express the happiness and inspiration you have given me through this video i would say them. =)

Well filmed, well executed. I especially liked the highlights on being useful and NOT destroying the city. All the things you said can be exercised in our own towns, but especially when visiting. David was right, you need to spread the message; you have the understanding of a true traceur. Thanks to everyone who made this video possible.

Oranges, seriously bro, if you don't wanna get 500 traceurs from around the USA mad at you, with an inkling of a desire to kill you, shut the hell up?

There are few people more respected in this community than TK17. I don't even have to tell you how much better he is at parkour than you, but as the man would say, that doesn't even matter. Tk has done so much for this community, he's put out his heart and soul for Parkour. He is a living example, and he understands Parkour in a way you can't even comprehend.

So honestly, take it somewhere else. Nobody wants to hear your rants.

Yeah, listen to Adam. Not ot mention he's probably 12097159726 times stronger than you. Don't forget, bigger people have more weight to support, which equals stronger muscles, allowing them to move just as, if not better than you, and be stronger on a man vs. man level, since their muscles are more developed than you.
Don't hate.

That's an interesting thought. If every traceur pitched in, I'm sure quite a sum could be collected. Best solution is for it to be someone's private property, then he could give personal permission to anyone who desires to train on it, and disallow anyone who might destroy it, tag it, etc etc.

that'd be a really good idea. i was talking to one of my old gymnastics coaches and we where actually talking about building a mini one in the back of the gym lol, there's an old empty pool in the back of the gym that skateboarders skate in, but the gym closed it off.
we where like that would be soo cool to rebuild a smaller one in a pool then fill the pool back up so if you fall you dont die lol

That's brilliant. The biggest problem for building one here would be the liability. And, a pool would solve most of that problem! Pools FTW   :P

Don't hate.

Wow, seriously, I agree that TK-17 is cool and all that but that is horrible logic.

I skipped around through the video a bit, but I'm waiting for the high quality torrent to finish so I can watch it all like that. It looks very promising, what I saw of it was amazing! Please seed everybody! There are only 2 seeders right now and it says I have 37 days left, haha.

Is there a way where someone could put a download link on Google Video like some other videos have (like Jump London/Britain)?

There are a bunch of dl links on the first post... you can do a normal dl or you can torrent it.

I don't know how to do stuff with torrents and the download links weren't working for me.

Well for torrents, you need a program like uTorrent.

There are programs out there that allow you to rip content off of sites like Youtube and Google Video. Mine is a plugin for Firefox called Download Helper.

I have an extension that downloads videos, but its not working with google video right now.  I'll go try again.

Thank you, Tk17 for taking the amount of time you did for creating such an inspirational and proper documentary. I believe, in fact, this is the Only parkour related video I have seen that has covered the route to Lisses in such detail and explain the true, original philosophy David Belle and first generation traceurs wish to conserve.  Please continue creating videos as it shows you have talent for film-making! Best wishes.
