Post by: Ryan Ford on October 24, 2006, 12:47:24 PM
This thread is a compilation of links to some of the best videos put out by the parkour and freerunning communities. To earn a place in this list, the video must show tremendous skill, refreshing originality, vital information, or top notch editing and production. This is an exclusive list and any video found here can be viewed as an important resource for the online communities in the way of information, inspiration, and achievement. This list will be updated whenever a worthy video is released. All comments, suggestions, and questions regarding the videos on this list (and ones that aren't) are welcome in this thread.

Wow, Owen's a friggin' gibbon.

I really like the VA PK Timeless (http://www.americanparkour.com/video/timeless/timeless-va.wmv) video. Others who know a lot more than me will be better judges of the skill shown. In any case, this is the video I show to people when I want to introduce parkour. It doesn't include roof-jumps or such things to freak out parents. It shows movement and flow (whether real or spliced-together), rather than individual exercises or moves. And it looks hard but possible to someone like me, while watching Owen would just intimidate me if that's the first thing I saw.

pk13 was not that good. they did a few big techniques, but not as fast or efficient as they could have been and what happened to all the other moves that are parkour?

i would probably nominate a Zanshin Studios piece, either "Enter the Zanshin" or "Inspire". The pk isn't exactly up to speeders standard but it's pretty good, and it's one of the most fun to watch parkour vids.

if somebody could find the links to all the videos that arent linked yet, that would be great. also, if someone could organize, categorize, and make the list more informational and good looking, that would be much appreciated by a lot of people! i have been pretty busy and havent been able to put the time i wanted into this post.

Here is the link to U$F Vol 3: http://www.urbanfreeflow.com/u_dollar_f/u_dollar_f3.htm (http://www.urbanfreeflow.com/u_dollar_f/u_dollar_f3.htm)

It was listed above, but with no link.  Being new to Parkour I found the interview with Stephane very interesting.   He recounts his original training, giving examples,  and insight into the philosophy of Parkour.  His comments are inspiring and sobering.   Very much in line with Blane's Dilution article.  It's a must see.

Jump Westminster (http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=4001097277208720031&q=jump%2Bwestminster) Jump Westminster is great for beginners. It's got the inspiring stuff at the beginning, and then all the footage of kids training. You're like "If that fat kid can do that, so can I."

Okay... Jump Westminster. WOW.

I have a new mission in life. No joke.

As a teacher, I was hoping to start a PK club at my school (but then I changed schools so I have to start over at the new school). However now, I'm thinking of partnering up with a couple of youth community centers and doing something like this in my city. *gears in the head are turning*

Yup... this is something I absolutely need to do.

I cannot seem to get the Stephane documentary to work.  I downloaded it but when I try to open it in Windows Media Player it gives me a message about the extension being different from the file type or something like that.

Anybody else have this trouble or know how to fix it? Thanks.

Great videos by the way!

I believe that by continually watching good technique and form in Parkour you will naturally adapt your motions to replicate what you have seen. This article (http://www.golfonline.com/golfonline/features/features/article/0,17742,1533067,00.html) demonstrates what I'm talking about, though I'm sure you all agree with me. It's important to observe the proper movements in Parkour so that you don't end up like those pathetic UK kids on youtube who recklessly run and jump around, taking pride in the fact that they are destroying their bodies (I know first hand that there are plenty of Americans too).

Watch good videos when you cannot train, and note moves that these well trained traceurs make. Though they have trained heavily for many years, it's clear that every traceur can take something positive away. Nice idea Demon.

Blane's Dilution article is revealing and very good for any level traceur to read (though it's probably targeted at budding traceurs like myself).

Demon, you were IN this documentary. Also, how old is it? I saw a 2009 tag on the bottom of the website.
