Title: What now?
Post by: Veloceth on July 03, 2008, 06:59:59 PM
Okay, so I'm a very, very new Traceur. I started almost a month ago now. I've been trying to practice stuff very systematically, so that I don't try anything too soon and hurt myself. For this first month, I've been doing nothing but rolls and landings, under different circumstances every few days. I've also been doing the APK daily warmup every day. What should be my next step upward? Kong vault? Speed vault? Palm spin?
I was able to do lazy vaults before I even started Parkour, so I've stricken that from my list :P

You should not strike anything out of your list. There is always a new way to practice things.

As far as what is next, that is up to you really. There are tons fo things you can do, vaults, precision, PK related conditioning (QM's, muscle ups, hand stands) that would go along with your technical training.

Just try whatever you think is more suitable for you. You can always practice a few techniques at the time. Be creative.

Also, make sure you drill your rolls constantly. Make them part of your EVERYDAY training. Everytime you go out and practice try to do a few, both sides.

Good luck.

I'll definitely practice rolling every day.
I watched your tutorial on kong vaults today and I've been practicing that.

You can always improve upon your techniques, for example working to get the most power/speed/etc. from your lazy that you can.

What I'd suggest personally is to just get more comfortable moving, running, climbing, jumping, swimming, etc. Getting used to doing things that you may not have done already. I also suggest conditioning a ton if you aren't already(don't overdue it though, an overuse injury is a dumb way to injure yourself) Technique wise you can always improve somehow, no matter how experienced you are. So if you want to work more of the "basic" techniques just kind of go for it, but don't ever stop learning them, don't think "oh I can land a kong, don't have to worry about that anymore" because thats not what parkour is about, you should master your body and your environment, never settle for just landing it, you want to strive for perfection in everything. At least thats how I see it. *shrugs*
