San Francisco has been throwing montlhly jams for quite some time but
last months (August 8th) came with great success! 50+ traceurs showed
up along with 5.10 shoes , G4TV and addicted.tv film crews. 2008 by far
was the best year for jams in the U.S. Click below to read more about
the jams and how things went down in SF.
I posted this in the forums, but I felt like more people should see how positive a competition could be in freerunning. This is an article on my experiences this week while in London at the Barclaycard World Freerun Championships. I just want to emphasize that I had an amazing time, I made 22 new best friends, and couldn't be happier with how well everything came together for the athletes, stage crew and everyone who had a hand in it.
As many of you may
have noticed, or soon will APK has put out its first electronic newsletter to
its 44,000+ registered members! Tentatively titled “The Free Runner” (more of a
play on words than a notation of the discipline it covers) which is set to be
sent out on a regular basis every whenever we get around to it. Basically we
want to reach out to the community getting people who don’t go to the forums
info on what’s down in that community, people who only go to the forums what’s
going on in that scary place we call the real world, and people who may have
drifted away a peek at what’s been going on in the parkour world!
So if you’re
interested in signing up to receive the Free Runner again to find out about
news, media, and the latest exclusive content subscribe here and
for a limited time receive a coupon code for $10 off any order of $25 or more
at the APK Store! So subscribe now and get with the flow!
Gabe Nunez of Tempest Freerunnig won the Barclaycard World Freerun Chamionships held in London yesterday. Gabe hails from Los Angeles where he moved specifically to follow his career in freerunning! Ealrier this year he was in the 3 Doors Down video "It's Not my Time" and recently he doubled Vic Lopez in a Mazda commercial. We'll have video of his runs as soon as they're available! There will be plenty of articles about this, so we'll consolidate them to one "in the news" item. Here's the first one to release details of Gabes win (that we've seen).
Tribe members Levi "Skynative" Meeuwenberg and Billy "Skipper" Hughes are currently overseas making waves in the international scene!
Levi has returned to Japan to tackle the obstacles at Mt. Midoriyama for Ninja Warrior. Last time he was there, after being one of the American Ninja Warrior winners, he was the only contender to make it to Stage 3 where he unfortunately met his demise. We'll be rooting for him and can't wait to watch him dominate the course again!
Billy just flew over to London to be one of 4 American athletes competing in the Barclaycard World Freerun Championship. There are 15+ countries taking part in the competition, so it should be a super exciting event!
In the game add on, each player takes turns creating and mastering
movement combinations while building off of each other’s ideas. At the
end, a flowing collection of movements should link together without
hesitations or other inefficiencies.

Our man Smitty has started training with a few guys in Baghdad. They're
now working on the basics that he started with a few months ago, and
the cycle continues. There's no doubt that the benefits of CrossFit and Parkour
training are directly applicable for our military, and these guys know
it and live it. Thanks for all you do and keep up the good work!
This past weekend a man in Cairns, Australia fell from a rooftop down 8 meters. Luckily, he made it to the hospital in critical condition and is now stable. Owners of a local bar told police that they feared this man was involved in "Free-running" and the police did some investigation. The Australian Parkour Association was contacted and stated that they had no known traceurs in Cairns.
Regardless of whether parkour was involved or not, I wanted to highlight this news piece to remind you all of the grand danger involved when you mess around on rooftops. Parkour should NOT be practiced on rooftops - any of the things you do up there could easily be replicated at safe ground level.
Check out the awesome pic of Travis Graves doing a sick L-sit in the Flatirons, near Boulder Colorado on the front-page of Crossfit.com . Thanks a ton to Travis for repping APK and Primal Fitness with style!
That's right! Thanks to all who voted, Brian "NoSole" Orosco (ANC2 winner), Mark "UrbanFreedom" Witmer (ANC2 contestant), and Team Tempest member Luci S. are going to Japan to attack the Sasuke course together along with Levi "SkyNative" Meeuwenberg (ANC2 winner). There were so many great entries it's a shame they can't all go!
Skipper (of APK and the Tribe ) will be going to London to compete in the Barclaycard World Freerun Championship. He'll be representing the US alongside some of the guys from Team Tempest. In addition to having a cool set of obstacles to play on, the competition is being handled in a great spirit; all the athletes will stay in one hostel together for the whole time - the idea is that friendship and getting together is more important than the competition aspect. Check out more details at Urban Freeflow . Skipper's extensive diving and professional Freerunning experience will ensure that his run will be something you don't want to miss!
The second in Jereme's series of videos called "Unconventional Training Grounds." For anyone who lives in the suburbs or a rural area, these are going to be videos for you. They'll feature places a lot of less experienced traceurs would commonly overlook as training location, and just give examples of how to be creative with minimal stuff to work with.
At Primal, we just got our latest shipment from K-SWISS -
more Ariake Lite Meshes. I love these shoes!! I think they look great, they are
super comfortable, and have the same awesome grip as the Ariakes. We call them
dietakes - the same grip, less weight. The comfort and weight reduction come at
the price of lateral stability. If I’m doing a conditioning session or I’m out
for a run I prefer the Mesh, but if I’m doing a hardcore parkour training
session, drilling tic-tacs and cats I’d rather have the original Ariakes on.
Anyway, I’m as excited to get these today as I was whenI got my first pair of them a year ago. Check them out at K-SWISS.com. Pictured at the MMA / Judo / Yoga studio at Primal Fitness . Read more for a pic of the sole.
This Saturday, Rafe Kelley will be leading a Movnat (Natural movement / exercise) clinic in Sedro Wooley, WA. Zac went to North Carolina to visit TK17. Read a great hike they went on here! It involves car breakdowns, Zac in the trunk of a Honda Element, and awesome views!
" My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being,
with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with
productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only
absolute."
A little bit of a deviation from the high-def wallpapers, but I couldn't pass up this photo taken by Tyson Cecka that was in the July 7th POTW gallery. The saying is one I'll never forget from when I saw it on a t-shirt at the first PKUSA in NY years ago. I believe it was Ductmonkey, the creator of PDQ, who was wearing it!
